About SAVOY
Our History
Originally constructed by the Britishers in early 1898 as the
Malabar Guest House, Hotel Savoy in Kannur became a prominent
luxury establishment hosting British officials. With a storied
history, the hotel significantly contributed to Kannur’s tourism
development, hosting dignitaries and celebrities. In 1974, the
prominent business group named KS Group purchased the hotel,
leading to its expansion and renovations to meet growing
demands. By the 1990s, Hotel Savoy attracted global business and
leisure travelers, continuing to enhance services through the
2000s.
Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, stayed at Hotel
Savoy in 1947. Born in 1900, he served in the Royal Navy, played
a pivotal role in India’s transition to independence, and later
became the first Governor-General. His stay at Hotel Savoy
remains a historical marker of his significant role in Indian
history.
